Shango known as a powerful warrior and the fourth legendary king of the Oyo kingdom, Shango was renowned for his fiery temper, which was often compared to the thunderous roar and flashing lightning of a storm. The many myths surrounding Shango emphasize his impulsive use of power and his ability to destroy. One myth mentions that Shango's chiefs ended his tyrannical rule by dethroning him and expelling him from the capital. After Shango hangs himself, his friends learn charm-making and acquire the power to attract lightning to take vengeance on the houses of their (and the former king's) enemies. A second story recounts how Shango, fascinated with magical powers, inadvertently kills several of his wives and children with a thunderstorm he conjured up. His sorrow leads him to abdicate the throne and hang himself; his enemies scorn his name.

When thunderstorms destroy much of the capital, Shango's followers say it is the former king himself punishing the slanderers. A unique African handmade wooden Dan Passport Mask Deangle Liberia 578.
